WHAT TO DO IN QUITO?

Mid July, I left Lima for more than a month of travel in Ecuador and Colombia. First destination? Quito. So it was with some logic that I propose in the first place on your blog journey a preferred route to Quito. I can tell you right away, Quito gave me very good impression. Having traveled quite a bit in Peru or Bolivia, I found the city of Quito cleaner and nicer than most of what I had seen. And, I dare say, also nicer than Lima, where I lived though over 4 months (see article that visit in Lima anyway, huh). So discover together the capital of a country that deserves to be known!

The old town
Old Quito
Starting from the Plaza Grande, you can experience a beautiful old city that is one of Quito. Typical streets, historic buildings,
I suggest you simply walk around the neighborhood without predefined route. Good morning should be enough, and you will have the opportunity to meet many shoemakers in the streets, perfect if you have concerns of shoes. Repairs will not cost you more than a few dollars, because, yes, Ecuador, they use dollars as their currency.

Because, yes, Ecuador, they use dollars as their currency.

Feel free to go into churches you can find on your way, they are all so different that each can be worth a look, including the Church of St. Francis!
Tip: The old city of Quito is considered by UNESCO as the largest of all the old cities of Latin America, period.
THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE
Located on the Great Plaza, the Presidential Palace is available for inspection for any person, Ecuadorian or not. So you just go to the left of it with your passport  in order to be part of a group of 20 people for a visit that will last about an hour. The Presidential Palace wants to be a beautiful building, and you will get a free photo of your visit, you will get back at the end of it!
THE teleferico
One feature of the city of Quito is the fact that it is very broad, and more or less like a banana or a snake. Good thing, because taking the Teleferico, you can enjoy the view of the capital of a little over 1.4 million inhabitants. The latter is ULTRA slow, but worth the trip short walk once you arrive at the top.
THE CENTER OF THE WORLD
Who has never dreamed to be located in the center of the world, between northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere, or the time, life, the world stops. Or not, I just ignites. But still, it's pretty exciting to say we can be on a line that separates the two hemispheres, right?
So, some will tell you it has no interest, and too touristy, I completely agree on this point (train, restaurants, ...). But we can not find a lot of time in his life at the center of the world, thus compels me to tell you to go there during your stay in Quito since The Mital del Mundo is a 30-minute small bus or taxi! In addition, you will learn that the French (crowing) have something to do with this place ... I do not tell you more :)
Please note: There is a "  former  "lesser known museum located a few hundred meters from the tourist resort of Mital del Mundo. I invite you to get there, you'll make enough fun experiences (to fit an egg on a nail ...). More info here .
BASILICA
Located at  Calle Venezuela and Carchi , Basilica of Quito recently completed since 1982 following lengthy work, offers a nice view of the city from the top of its towers. Please note, stairs up are pretty tight and small!
OTHER THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN QUITO
You still have time to give this beautiful capital Quito what? No worries, I can still recommend some activities below:
  • The Church of the Company, covered in gold, should impress you. Photos banned though.
  • The Botanical Gardens can be worth its look for nature lovers.
  • El Panicello, which gives a beautiful view of Quito. It is said that the flights are quite common when you go there, so do not take too much of valuables with you just in case!
  • To leave Quito, Plaza Foch will be your best friend, or you will find numerous bars and nightclubs!
REMEMBER BEFORE LEAVING IN QUITO
If you are not too bad at geography, you know that Quito is located in Latin America. Yes?Well done! :)
Who says Latin America, said differences of life. Do not forget to take such a universal adapter , and also a padlock for suitcase in case, though Quito is very safe to me. If you need this, I invite you to go through Pack'N'Board, an online store that grants all your readers round the world a 15% discount! It is not life grand :)
WHERE TO EAT IN QUITO
Guests can enjoy local specialties in Quito, as you can eat International. In places, we will retain a particular excelentissime sushi that meets the sweet name of Edo. I also loved a Lebanese restaurant, Baalbeck, you will find some pictures above this paragraph, and located at the Avenida 6 de Diciembre y N23-103 Wilson. Finally, another good place is the discounted Pasteria Quito.
WHERE TO STAY IN QUITO
Quito is a city, you will have many solutions, whether or not for a substantial budget. Here are three options that I offer within your means and desires.
HACIENDA Rumiloma
Here is a 5 * hotel full of charm and located in the heights of Quito. The latter will offer a service and breathtaking views of the city, for an overall quality rarely seen in Latin America. The restaurant is also very nice, with a bay that offers Quito. Magical night! I also met an employee who had lived in Toronto and Montreal. You know my love for Montreal and he told me he loved living there ... Memories, memories
LA CASA AMARILLA B & B
Considered one of the best guest houses of all Quito (Top 5 on Tripadvisor anyway), Casa Amarilla is run by a wonderful person, Jenny. You really feel at home despite the tens of thousands of killometres separating us from our lovely nest. The breakfast is nice and fresh. I stress the fact that Jenny is great and will give you the best advice for visiting Quito, whether in terms of security (it was she who told me that El Panicello can be dangerous for tourists) :)
